With its signature red and chrome glistening gas tank, the Husqvarna (or “Husky” as it’s affectionately known) was a stunning beauty of a bike, and a mud-slinging beast on the American motocross circuit. Back in the 1960s, the…Read more …

BIKERS, CIRCA 1983 – 1985 | THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF ANN-SIMMONS MYERS

Kind and patient persistence does pay off. Ann Simmons-Myers, the photographer behind these amazing images that follow, finally after 3 months agreed to allow TSY to publish her Biker series dating back from 1983-1985. It’s very close to her heart, understandably, and I’m so grateful to be able to share these with you now. Ann, thank you very much. And Corrina from LA, thank you as well. These images are just incredible glimpes of authentic “livin’ the life”, taken I believe in Tucson, Arizona– my hometown back in the ol’ school days.   Dr. D Madd’s .357, 1985 —…Read more …

The Catalina Varsity Jacket

The Catalina Varsity Jacket

In the past I’ve written about both the Catalina La Paz and the Derby of San Francisco bomber jackets. This time I’m focusing on the Catalina Varsity, a jacket closer in style and substance to the Derby version, along with a new copy from Oi Polloi. My first encounter with this style of jacket came from my secondary school PE lost and found box. In the late 70s I I would regularly revisit the box where there were dozens of discarded sportswear items. Some of the stuff had probably been there for years.…Read more …

The Real McCoy´s 2016 Japan Magazine.

As the Wall Street Journal's cultural magazine, WSJ often takes a global view on the business of fashion. This issue, out this week, they've delved into the idea that perfection-obsessed Japanese entrepreneurs like Hitoshi Tsujimoto — of the Real McCoy's and NYLON stores — make "American clothes" better than we do here in the States. "None of this would be particularly surprising — blue jeans, college sweatshirts, and other American fashions were popular the world over — if not for the fact that Tsujimoto and others like him would go on to design and construct versions of iconic American…Read more …
